This wardrobe unit for a domestic violence shelter was part of my senior thesis in Interior Design.
The wardrobe is meant to be used by a mother and up to two children while she is a resident at the shelter. It provides both open storage (for ease of cleaning, as well as security issues) and closed drawers for privacy. There is both a tall hanging feature, as well as a display nook for mementos.
Ultra-light MDF was dowel-joined, using a minimal amount of screws to support extra weight. Drawers were dovetailed. The whole piece (including the painted details) was lacquered for easy cleaning. The final design splits into two pieces and casters were added for mobility between rooms in the shelter.
